Small steps to the target

Today I just deactivated my Twitterfeed – feed. This means that whatever I post here will no longer be fed through to my Twitter and Facebook account. I have been taking time off from both (Facebook and Twitter) anyway. I just check my mail from which I can read the notifications from. I am not going anti-social, just hitting the brakes and keeping things slow.

So yes if you got this in Twitter or in Facebook, the “deactivation” did not work – and all this is just shit. :)

Enjoy!

How to Add a GoogleCard in your WordPress blog

Today I came a cross a website with a small box on the right column showing an avatar of a girl with her name and “Add to Circles”. “Circles” is the new “Friends list” when it comes to Google+ (Google Plus).

At first glance I thought that was another spam-ad, kind of like the banners we see that looked like it came from Facebook. The ones that has “1 new message please click here”. But at a closer inspection of the codes it appeared a legitimate “widget” for Google+.

If you have already added your Facebook and Twitter widget to your site like me, it would be best to have the Google+ widget too – that is if you have a Google+ Account already.

To install it is easy – see below if you can follow the easy steps.

Installation

1. Download googlecards.zip and unzip
2. Upload the unzipped googlecards folder to the `/wp-content/plugins/` directory
3. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
4. Go to the ‘Widgets’ menu in WordPress and add the widget to your sidebar.
5. Choose a title for the widget and input your google+ id. (You can find your google+ id by going to your profile, it is the 21 digit number e.g. plus.google.com/YOUR_ID_IS_HERE).

This plugin is developed by the guys from - http://plusdevs.com/

I have yet to tweak my CSS though to make the GoogleCard appear nicely :)

If it doesn’t work for you, hit the comments section and I may be able to help.

How To Get Hits For Your Blog

I have been doing some Search Engine Optimization for sometime now and I know by practice what the two important things for a website to work. #1 is Content, and #2 is the Hits!

Content is still the King. Design attracts people, awes your users, but what makes them come back again and again is the content. But people wont often “re-read” something. Therefore it is important for a website to offer fresh content every so often. New content daily is required and expected for news sites, but for blog sites 1 in a day or two I think is fine.

That pretty much summarizes content. And I might be talking a bit more about adding content to your website/blog in the next days. But what I wanted to squeeze in next is the Hits! The number of visits you get from people in your website. Notice I used (!) every time I mention “hits”? Because there is a need for your website, blog or product to be heard.

A good product would serve no purpose if no one knows about it. No matter how you design your website, or how well and informative your content is, if people don’t get to see it, it will be of no use. Unless otherwise you want it to be personal.

How do we get hits or visits to our website? I often ask myself this one because I have been struggling to get visits to my blog sites as well as our other websites. Until I realized, and also with the help of some friends in the SEO and Search Marketing business how to gather an audience.

Do not take social websites for granted. They can be a good source of visitors. For example in my Twitter, I have posted a link, called a tweet “i have just launched a new blog about some of my artist friends. Check out the amazing Creole Cakes http://iamwhatido.wordpress.com/” And it attracted a good number of people coming in to my website.

I have posted in Facebook. And that is where I got most of my hits! Imagine, who would have thought that Facebook can be a source of site visitors. There are more tricks, how to get more people to view your link on Facebook other than your friends. I will discuss it some other time.

That is it for now. About site content and getting visitors! :)

Blogging and Tweeting

Blogging has been around for quite sometime now. But what is twitter? What is that blue bird icon doing in webpages?

My opinion is that, twitter is the new – blogging, bookmarking, rss feed – system.

It basically gives you instant info. Like MJ’s death was quickly spread around twitter, amongst my followers/ and people i follow group. And as a “Trending Topic”

SO i thought, should I continue blogging? or Just tweet my thoughts out. Say what I wanted to say within 140 characters. Naah Id rather blog about it. I will just make twitter a means for people to get to my blog.

Wel if you want to follow me. just click http://twitter.com/erikbriones

But like this blogs and my previous ones, my twitter updates are all dependent on my mood to write. Sometimes there are stuff to read there, sometimes it is as boring as hell. (but is it really boring there?)
